So here we are in Blackpool just before the show in what seems to be the heart of all entertainment days past in the UK. Last night in Manchester at the O2 Arena was heartfelt and I was properly nervous as it was Paul Young's home town and his family came to support us and his music. The crowd was awesome and very generous to us which made the music onstage and the vibe great... (really looking forward to the next shows in Liverpool Scotland and the Midlands in the next few weeks.)
Meeting Pauls family really brought it home that the Mechanics are a family and always have been... so glad that the fans have embraced us new guys as an extention of that! Thanks to Pat and all the Young family... I feel so honoured.
I think the coolest thing about the tour so far is the Mechanics audience and how supportive they have been to the new music, album, the tour and the change in line up. It's a lot to take on board but If I can go back to the way in which this all came about ... meeting Mike, jamming together, writing new music and recording at Fisher Lane, the energy was amazing... but to start the Mechanics up after so long seemed to be part of a much bigger design, it had to be more than just a few people in a studio together.... it had to be a Family. In order for the old hits to soar again and the new material to stand a chance I now realize that throughout the whole 2 year process Mike was really creating a new Family to add to the existing Family and the missing ingredient that we were all waiting for was and is our fans! The Super loyal fans and the new ones deserve the best live experience... now that we are touring city to city playing night after night and growing as a band I know we are ready to Rock the Road and give the fans back the music.... and maybe even another soundtrack to their and our lives!
Heres to catching up on the Hit the Road Tour 2011...
Cheers and thanks
